The European Union will ban certain disposable plastic products from 2021. According to normative acts, products that will be banned in a few years are ear sticks, cutlery and plastic plates, straw, liquid sticks and disposable bags.
At the same time, oxy-plastic (plastic with non-degradable artificial additives), and certain polystyrene materials used in fast-food cans will be banned as well.
Consumption of some other articles, for which there is no alternative yet, will have to be reduced by Member States by at least 25% by 2025. This category includes disposable burger boxes, sandwich boxes or fruits, vegetables, desserts or ice cream packaging.
Pollution of plastic waste will have to be reduced by up to 50% by 2025 and 80% by 2030.
According to the European Parliament’s decision, Member States will develop National Plans to encourage the use of appropriate products for multiple use as well as for their re-use and recycling.
